Offensive Line Draft Possibilities
It’s never too early to start talking about the draft, just ask ESPN. This year the Cowboys don’t have any glaring needs, which is a great position to be in. We have areas that could use some depth, but no position that if the season started tomorrow we would be biting our fingernails.
Lets talk offensive lineman. I know, I know, lineman could not be a more boring subject. They are the unsung heroes of the NFL. They never get credit when they’re good and get the finger pointed at them when they’re bad.  The Cowboys haven’t drafted an offensive lineman in the first round since 1981. Which it means it could be a long shot, but should still be in discussion because of it’s one of their biggest offseason needs.
The Cowboys line is aging rapidly. Every starter is at least 32, with Flozell Adams being the oldest at 34 (he’ll be 35 by the time the season starts). I know it may seem strange to think we should draft a lineman, considering the Cowboys have one of the stronger lines in the league. However, to quote my one my favorite movies in Stepbrothers, “It’s not enough dad.”
Some of the prospects out there are offensive tackle Bruce Campbell from Maryland. Campbell was projected a late first rounder to early second rounder, but after an impressive showing at the combine he shot up the big board. Running the fastest forty time of all the lineman, he may not be available by the time the Cowboys draft at number 27. If he happens to be there, the boys should not hesitate to grab him.
Another potential option is Vladimir Ducasse from U-Mass. Ducasse is considered a second rounder and I think it will stay that way after a poor performance at the combine. He’s really raw right now. He wouldn’t be worth a first rounder, but I think if we happened to grab him in the second round it would be a steal. Our offensive line coach Hudson Houck is considered one of the best in the business. If anyone can get Ducasse into a starter at this level, it’s Houck.
I think the offensive line is our biggest need because we don’t have many needs at all. Defensive backfield could use a boost, but we could have an answer for that in house. These two lineman seem to make the most sense to me as a way to address this need, what do you think?
