Aug. 15, 2010 - Oxnard, California, United States of America - Aug 15, 2010: Dallas Cowboys guard, KYLE KOSIER.

The Dallas Cowboys lost yet another starting offensive lineman to injury when left guard Kyle Kosier limped off the field after Wednesday morning’s practice. Kosier got tangled up during normal blocking drills and was taken to the locker room by trainer Jim Maurer. An MRI confirmed the Cowboys’ fears of a sprained MCL. With the injury, Koiser will miss 4-6 weeks, sidelining him through at least the season opener at Washington.  Kosier’s injury came just four days after starting right tackle Marc Colombo injured his right knee. Now the question arises of whether to play quarterback Tony Romo at all in Sunday’s preseason game at San Diego. (more…)

At the conclusion of Sunday’s practice in Oxnard, California, Cowboys’ starting right tackle Marc Colombo was carted off the field after his knee locked up. The ninth-year veteran has been diagnosed with loose cartilage and will miss two-to-four weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery to remove the cartilage. “I think he’ll be OK,” offensive line coach Hudson Houck said. “I don’t think it’s any major problem. We don’t want to miss him.” With backup tackle Alex Barron also out with an ankle injury, sixth-round draft pick Sam Young will replace Colombo in the starting lineup for now. Second-year tackle Robert Brewster could also fill in some for Colombo as he is now the primary backup for both tackle positions. Colombo is expected back for regular season opener at Washington. He is entering the third season of the four-year, $22 million contract he signed on Christmas Day of 2008.

The Cowboys won the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, but the win came with a price for some players. Second-year tight end John Phillips played exceptionally well in the exhibition, catching 4 passes for 60 yards, including a big 24-yard reception. Phillips left the game in the second quarter with what was initially diagnosed as a right knee sprain. Further testing will prove if the injury is indeed a sprain. Backup tackle Alex Barron also left the game with a sprained right ankle and reserve tight end Kevin Brock suffered the same ailment on the left ankle. The biggest blow for any Dallas Cowboy was a broken thumb suffered by wide receiver Titus Ryan. The third-year veteran returned the opening kickoff for 38 yards but muffed his first punt return due to the injured thumb. Otherwise, Cowboys fans had to be pleased with the outcome. (more…)

It’s much more difficult to preview a preseason game (especially the Hall of Fame Game) than a regular season game. This won’t be a who-is-going-to-win-and-why column. However, there are several intriguing story lines heading into this showdown between Dallas and six former Cowboys with the Cincinnati Bengals. No one gets to see how first-round draft pick Dez Bryant will perform, but his absence presents opportunities for other youngsters to show their stuff. Special teams have the most anticipated debut besides Bryant, and new starters on both offense and defense are under pressure to shine. Here’s the first preview of a 2010 Dallas Cowboys “game.” (more…)

The Cowboys’ offensive line has been in question since the release of Flozell Adams on April 2nd. Adams was a five-time Pro Bowl left tackle for Dallas, opening holes for Cowboys’ running backs for the past 12 seasons. However, Adams also led the NFL in penalties the past two seasons, the main cause of his release. Dallas also cut center/guard Cory Procter on May 17th after 5 seasons as a Cowboy. Without a left tackle and role player, many Cowboys fans were left asking, “Who is going to protect quarterback Tony Romo’s blind side?” (more…)
