The suspicious package found near Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, turned out to be a dud. After the Arlington Bomb Squad was called out to the 900 block of Randol Mill Road across from Cowboys Stadium before 8 a.m. on Friday, the package turned out to be just a wad of trash. A 911 call reported someone throwing a “suspicious package” down a storm drain in the median of Randol Mill Road and the Arlington Police Department shut down Randol Mill Road, Collins St, and Cowboys Way from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. The picture above shows a member of the Arlington Bomb Squad dressed in protective clothing reaching down the storm drain to recover the package. Cowboys Stadium will host Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6 and it was originally believed that the package might be a bomb set to interrupt the big game. At 9:45 a.m., the police cleared the streets and all is well.

Early Friday morning, Randol Mill Road, Collins Street, and Cowboys Way, which all run right by Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was closed due to a suspicious device found that police think may very well be a bomb. The Arlington Bomb Squad and HAZMAT are at Cowboys Stadium now inspecting what they believe is a man hole. This hole and the suspicious package were found in a median in the street just before 8 a.m. The Arlington Police were notified by a 911 call by someone who said they saw another person throw the package down a storm drain on Randol Mill Road. “We’re doing a lot of monitoring to make sure it’s not chemical or radiological,” Arlington fireman Pete Arevalo said. The Arlington water department had to come unlock the manhold cover so that the bomb squad could go below ground and recover the package. Cowboys Stadium will host Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6 barring no interruption from this investigation.
