At first glance, it seems that this season finale matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles is pointless. The Cowboys are out of the playoffs and headed for a top 10 draft pick no matter the outcome. Likewise, the Eagles are locked into the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs whether they win or lose. It’s already certain that some of each teams’ regulars won’t be in action. Not surprisingly, each team will be without its starting quarterback. For Dallas, that’s been the case since Week 7 when Tony Romo went down with a broken collarbone. In last week’s loss to the Cardinals on Christmas Day, quarterback Jon Kitna also went down with a hip injury. Second-year pro Stephen McGee will make his first NFL start this Sunday against the Eagles while Philadelphia signal caller Michael Vick will be sidelined with a contusion on his quadriceps. Despite all the injuries and the perspective of this being a meaningless matchup, you should definitely tune in because this NFC East rivalry never disappoints. (more…)

Somehow following this lackluster season, five Dallas Cowboys were selected to participate in the 2011 Pro Bowl, the NFL’s annual All Star game. Following the team’s latest outing, a 27-26 loss to the lowly Cardinals on Christmas Day, the Cowboys are 5-10 this season with only one game remaining. I’ll regretfully remind you that the Super Bowl will be played at Cowboys Stadium Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 16. However, with such a pitiful record, the Cowboys have no shot at participating. At the beginning of the season, most of the football world thought Dallas had an excellent shot at being the first team to host the Super Bowl. After a host of key injuries and a coaching catastrophe, Dallas has ended up at the bottom of the barrel. However, five lucky players will still be going to Hawaii the week before the Super Bowl. Dallas Cowboys kicker David Buehler missed an extra point that would have given his team a 3-point lead over the Arizona Cardinals with just over two minutes to play on Christmas Day. Opposing kicker Jay Feely made him pay with a 48-yard field goal with 10 ticks left to give Arizona a 27-26 holiday victory. Dallas rookie quarterback Stephen McGee made his NFL debut when Jon Kitna went down with a hip injury. McGee led the Cowboys back from an 18-point deficit and took the lead via a 45-yard touchdown pass to receiver Miles Austin with 1:46 to play. Buehler’s missed extra point made the score 26-24 in Dallas’ favor, but Cardinals rookie quarterback John Skelton got Feely in field goal range late to take the win. (more…)
