How in the world the Jaguars came into Arlington and molly-rocked the Cowboys the way they did Sunday I will never know. I cannot imagine how a team with Super Bowl intentions can lose so handedly to a team that went 7-9 a year ago. In my preview of the game, I said Dallas would harass Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard in his first game back from a concussion. As it turns out, Garrard scored all five of Jacksonville’s touchdown in a 35-17 rout of America’s Team. In fact, Garrard was five tenths of a point short of a perfect passer rating on the day, completing 17 of 21 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns. As if that wasn’t enough, the East Carolina product added a rushing touchdown in the game’s final minutes. In short, the Cowboys’ defense forgot to show up, letting Garrard throw like crazy and allowing Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew rack up 135 yards on 27 carries. Don’t even get me started on the Dallas offense yet; that’s for later in this post.

Yeah, I know everybody is down on the Cowboys after they failed to live up to early predictions. Well so what? Things happen. This team has enough talent to overcome the current circumstances. I’m of the opinion that every setback is an opportunity. I’m also prudent enough to know that I’m just a fan. All the wishing won’t change a thing. This is the time when we’ll find out who really wants to win and who just wants an inflated $3 million paycheck. It takes more than having talent.  You have to have a burning desire to overcome. Cowboys-Jaguars Week 8 Preview

The Cowboys and Jaguars have played each other four times in NFL history, with the series tied at 2-2. It was just over four years ago that Jacksonville won the last meeting 24-17. Of course, that was the first game of the 2006 season, five before Tony Romo made his debut at quarterback for Dallas. The Jaguars are 3-4 on the season and hold last place in the AFC South with their quarterback, David Garrard making his first start since suffering a concussion against the Titans two weeks ago. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew is known as the “One-Man Wrecking Crew” in Jacksonville, as he’s the only All-Star caliber player on the team. However, this bunch of misfits dismantled the mighty Colts earlier this season, albeit on a last-second 59-yard field goal. Still, the Jaguars have three times as many wins on the year as Dallas, and do boast that one solid win against Indy. This week provides a prime opportunity for the Cowboys to begin their 10-game winning streak that receiver Roy Williams predicted. (more…)

The Cowboys’ Will Have to Change Their Game Plan to be Successful

The Cowboys’ game plan is going to have to change a little bit with a new quarterback. You can yak all you want about keeping it the same because that’s what Dallas has practiced, but I’m here to tell you that Jon Kitna is not the same quarterback as Tony Romo. However, the Cowboys can still be very successful with Kitna at the helm. There are several reasons why Dallas can and will be successful with Kitna at quarterback, but there are several factors that must be accomplished before that success will come. A majority of those factors falls on the offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett. Kitna was a pretty good quarterback in Detroit while throwing to current Cowboys receiver Roy Williams. That’s just one of the factors that could salvage the Cowboys’ season even without Romo on the field. (more…)

The Cowboys’ Season Might Not Be Over Just Yet

During a locker room interview following the Cowboys’ Monday night loss to the Giants, Dallas receiver Roy Williams was his usual optimistic self, but said something many thought to be foolish. Not only did Williams say the Cowboys can win out and make the Super Bowl, he said his team will win 10 games in a row. “We’ll start this week and then go 11-5, make the playoffs and go from there,” Williams said. Wait…what?! Yep, you heard him right, folks. Not many people will make that prediction with Jon Kitna playing quarterback now in place of the injured Tony Romo. Williams had his only Pro Bowl season in 2006 while playing for Detroit with Kitna as his quarterback, so it’s no surprise the positive-minded Williams made such a bold claim. You’ll never guess what else Williams said and what my prediction for the remainder of the Boys’ season. (more…)
