Cowboys Will Play Starters in Preseason Finale Against Dolphins
[picappgallerysingle id="9539085"]Most NFL teams typically use their third preseason game as a dress rehearsal and rest their starters during their final exhibition. Since the Cowboys will play an extra meaningless contest this year, the fourth preseason game was supposed to be that dress rehearsal for the regular season. However, due to the Cowboys’ poor play in their exhibition against Houston on Saturday, head coach Wade Phillips is mulling over something he wouldn’t have dreamed of doing had his team played better. It’s something you and I thought of about midway through the second quarter of the Cowboys’ preseason loss to the Texans – play the starters in that finale preseason game for a dress rehearsal do-over. Lack of Run Defense Against Houston Cause for Concern for Dallas
[picappgallerysingle id="9581301"]The Cowboys did now allow a single 100-yard rusher in the entire 2009 season. That stat includes the 34-3 blowout loss to the Vikings in the playoffs, in which Dallas held Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson to just 63 yards on the ground. The starting Dallas defense only played three and a half quarters against the Texans on Saturday, but that unit which ranked 4th in the league in 2009 in rush defense gave up 118 yards to Houston’s Arian Foster. I never worry much over meaningless exhibitions at all, but that defensive performance was embarrassing. Foster is a second-year back out of Tennessee that only started one game last season. Granted, this may be his breakout year, but Dallas should never let a no-name like Foster average over six yards per carry, preseason game or not. (more…)
Cowboys Sloppy in 23-7 Preseason Loss to Texans
[picappgallerysingle id="999518"]Nothing went right for the Dallas starters on either side of the football in the Cowboys’ preseason loss to the Texans in Houston on Saturday. The offensive timing was off, quarterback Tony Romo had no rhythm with any receiver, the running game was not present, and unforced errors became turnovers. For a second-to-last preseason game that was supposed to be a “dress rehearsal” for the Cowboys, head coach Wade Phillips has to be scratching his head after such a sloppy performance. I’m a die-hard Dallas fan and always have been, but no member of Cowboys Nation could possibly have anything positive to say about the exhibition. The main reason why Houston took it to us was the fact they were ready to play and we were not. However, it’s only preseason, so I’m not panicking and neither should you. Still, it was rough to watch as a Dallas fan. (more…)
Cowboys vs Texans Preseason Week 4 Preview
[picappgallerysingle id="1512242"]Due to injuries and other football factors, this preview of a Cowboys preseason game might actually be worth writing. If you’re a loyal The Cowboys Central follower, then you know I hate exhibitions. Even so, it is my duty to preview these “games” just like the regular season contests, so let’s take a look at the Cowboys’ matchup against the Texans tonight. In a preview of the Texas showdown in four weeks, Dallas and Houston will showcase their high-powered offenses toinght at 7:00pm. The starters on those two electric units may play some into the third quarter, but I wouldn’t be surprised if head coach Wade Phillips pulls his stars at intermission. (more…)
Dallas Cowboys are NFL’s Most Valuable Team
[picappgallerysingle id="9548508"]I’m sure you’ve been cutting back on some expenses due to the nation’s current recession just like I have. This financial downturn also affects those high above the blue-colored folks like you and me. Last season, the average value of all NFL teams fell 2% to roughly $1.02 billion. This is the first time this number has seen a decline in over a decade, even since Forbes Magazine began recording the values in 1998. The values of the teams have slightly dropped due to the decreased demand the current economy has created. Where businesses are cutting back on extras like advertising, individuals are not spending as much on pleasure, such as attending professional sporting events. (more…)
