[picappgallerysingle id="2256049"]This article was originally posted to evaluate Cowboys’ wide receiver Dez Bryant’s chances of winning Offensive Rookie of the Year this season. Just after I had completed the draft, I got the news Bryant suffered a high ankle sprain during practice yesterday. On the second-to-last play of the afternoon, Bryant got tangled up with cornerback Orlando Scandrick and was very slow to get up. After an MRI, Dallas trainers say Bryant will miss 4-6 weeks, which means all of the Cowboys’ five preseason games. This means Bryant will not have those exhibitions to build game-speed chemistry with quarterback Tony Romo. However, Bryant is only out for the preseason, not the regular season, so we will still evaluate his 2010 rookie season. (more…)

[picappgallerysingle id="7433551"]There has been a lot of talk lately about the Dallas wide receivers. Most of the chatter revolves around the speculation that one of the Cowboys’ receivers will be cut before the start of the regular season. Many of those suspicions point to Patrick Crayton, while some insinuate Sam Hurd. In a small part of these columns and reports is a sentence or two stating Kevin Ogletree will be one of the five receivers on the active 53-man roster. However, there is no reason given for this expectation or summary of Ogletree’s accomplishments that have earned him such instant respect. Let that investigation begin. (more…)

All-Cowboys Fantasy Team vs All-NFL Fantasy Squad

[picappgallerysingle id="7017763"]Like most football fanatics, I am an avid fantasy football player. I play in a competitive league every year as well as two or three not-so-competitive leagues. A friend of mine who plays in my competitive league won third place in our league last year and took home a decent cash prize. I finished fourth and was ousted in the first round of the playoffs. My friend’s draft strategy was not a complex formula of player rankings and cheat sheets. Quite the contrary; he just drafted as many Dallas Cowboys as he could. So that got me thinking; how would an All-Cowboys fantasy team match up against a diverse NFL fantasy team? For our point values, we will use an average of the projected stats by NFL.com, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated, and add them up according to the standard fantasy football scoring system. (more…)

[picappgallerysingle id="7120595"]Nude photos of a Dallas Cowboy have surfaced on the Internet for two days in a row. On Monday, backup tight end Martellus Bennett was seen on a certain photo website taking a picture of his naked self in a bathroom mirror. The website reported that one of Marty B’s ex-girlfriends submitted the photos to spite the former Texas A&M Aggie. On Tuesday, the same website displayed similar nude photos of safety Mike Hamlin. Unlike Bennett, who apologized for the obscenity, Hamlin claimed the photos were fake; altered through photo-editing software. (more…)

Dez Bryant Should Not Carry Roy Williams’ Pads

[picappgallerysingle id="5777667"]Dez Bryant is absolutely justified in saying, “No,” to Roy Williams about carrying the veteran’s shoulder pads. Williams prompted the rookie to carry his shoulder pads after the second of two Sunday practices, but the Oklahoma State product declined. After the first two days of the Cowboys’ training camp in San Antonio this weekend, everyone is all abuzz about the flashy rookie. Bryant made several highlight catches through the first two sessions of two-a-days, even against Dallas’ Pro Bowl corners Mike Jenkins and Terence Newman. This bodes extremely well for the Cowboys’ passing game heading into the 2010 season. However, Williams is pushing his luck with the “traditional” rookie hazing. (more…)
